Perlite in the construction industry - A success story
Perlite is indispensable throughout the construction industry. It greatly improves the processing properties of mortar and plaster. Due to its excellent heat and soundinsulating effect, it can be used as fill for many applications. The simple and rapid processing helps save time and money.

Superlite® as an integrated insulating material
In building construction today, very stringent requirements are laid down for sound insulation, thermal insulation and room climate. Superlite® from Knauf Perlite is the intelligent solution for mineral thermal insulation and is used as a component and filler of building blocks.

This innovative solution brings with it many advantages: additional external insulation is no longer needed, the Superlite® fill provides first class room climate, and the best soundproofing and safe fire protection. Building blocks which include Superlite® as integrated insulating material are pure natural products. They can be processed quickly and simply, saving energy and even increasing the re-sale value of buildings.
Convincing arguments
  • Non-flammable – Building Material Class A1
  • Outstanding thermal and sound insulation
  • Absolutely mould and pest-resistant
  • Virtually indestructible
  • Application versatility
  • Makes economic sense
  • Ecologically valuable
Superlite® as a fill
Superlite® opens up a wide range of opportunities for more efficient thermal and sound insulation with single and double brickwork. The fill fits to the particular geometric shape and provides additional fire protection (building materials class A1). Superlite® fills are optimally suited to interior construction and the insulation of façades. Insulation fabric or other insulating materials are no longer required.

Even in the floor area, for example for dry floors, poured concrete and asphalt mastic constructions, Knauf Perlite loose fills are the ideal base for a stable and solid structure. Superlite® is very well suited to levelling-out uneven surfaces and forming the basis of a functional construction.

Superlite® in ceilings and on the roof
Insulating fills from Knauf Perlite are indispensable in both ceilings/ceiling systems and on the roof. The material is particularly well suited to use as insulation and as a repair material when renovating flat roofs.

The advantages of Superlite® can be clearly seen: the natural material behaves as chemically neutral; it is biologically acceptable for building; and it also improves fire protection. Superlite® increases stability and durability of building works, as well as resistance to weathering, mould and pests.

Superlite® as lightweight aggregate
Knauf Perlite provides its customers with a high performance aggregate which considerably improves the processing properties of mortar and plaster. This open-pore, lightweight additive has a high specific surface and high whiteness. By mixing in the material, you can obtain considerable weight reduction – and higher strength of the raw material as a result.

Thermal stability up to 800 degrees Celsius and a high chemical resistance (virtually chemically inert) make Superlite® an ideal aggregate. It improves the dispersion of mixtures and prevents agglomeration (clumping) because the fluid medium improves the distribution properties of the components and increases the pourability and smoothness of finish.

Due to the high specific surface of Superlite®, coagulation of the material is reduced. The low hydroscopic moisture content leads to uniform distribution of moisture. Various grades can be adapted to the customer’s specific requirements and applications.

In the paint and lacquer industry, as well as the chemical industry, Superlite® is increasingly being employed as a lightweight additive. Superlite® refines the relevant end products, considerably improving product properties and end product processing.
